Is Resveratrol Really That Magical

Issuing time:2022-05-30 16:28

Resveratrol has not been in the public eye for a long time, but every time it appears, it will be called magic. So is resveratrol really that magic?

Resveratrol (3,4',5-trihydroxystilbene) is a polyphenolic antitoxin found in various plant species, such as peanuts, berries, and grapes, most commonly in the roots of Japanese knotweed. Resveratrol has been used for centuries in Asia for the treatment of inflammation. In recent years, the reason why red wine is believed to be good for health is that it is contained in grapes. This inspiration stems from an event called the "French Paradox".

The French Paradox was first proposed by an Irish doctor named Samuel Blair in an academic paper published in 1819: French people love food, and they usually consume a lot of high-calorie and high-cholesterol foods in their diets. However, the risk of developing cardiovascular disease is much lower than that of English-speaking people. So why does this happen? According to the survey, local people often accompany their meals with tannin-rich wines. Red wine contains resveratrol, which prevents blood clots, reduces inflammation, promotes vasodilation and inhibits bacterial growth.

Benefits of Resveratrol:

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the United States and most commonly presents as atherosclerosis. Studies have shown that resveratrol mainly has the following effects:

1. Inhibit the oxidation of low-density lipoprotein isolated from normotensive individuals;

2. Inhibit platelet aggregation and reduce platelet aggregation induced by adenosine diphosphate;

3. Inhibit smooth muscle cell proliferation in vitro;

4. Reduce the proliferation of esophageal cancer cells;

5. Attenuate intimal thickening after endothelial denudation and reduce the mean area of atherosclerotic plaques;

At the same time, resveratrol also has the following effects:

(1) Antipyretic and analgesic effects

Resveratrol can exert its antipyretic and analgesic therapeutic effects in a variety of ways. Experimental studies by pharmacologists in rats have shown that resveratrol can give the gastric mucosa the ability to resist stress ulcers caused by suppressed gastric secretion without affecting blood pressure.

(2) Anticancer effect

Resveratrol affects discrete stages of carcinogenesis by modulating signal transduction pathways that control cell division and growth, apoptosis, inflammation, angiogenesis, and metastasis.

(3) Antioxidant effect

Resveratrol is a natural antioxidant that exists in a variety of plants. It mainly exerts its antioxidant effect by scavenging or inhibiting the generation of oxidative free radicals, thereby inhibiting lipid peroxidation, and regulating the activities of related enzymes of antioxidant function.

(4) Anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects

Antibacterial experimental research results show that resveratrol has a strong inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and other bacteria. On the other hand, anti-inflammatory experimental studies have shown that resveratrol can achieve therapeutic effects by reducing platelet adhesion and changing platelet activity during the anti-inflammatory process.
